The origins of Hermès date back to 1837 when the harness-maker Thierry Hermès opened a workshop in rue Basse-du-Rempart, Paris. For many years Hermès offered items that met society’s needs, from saddlery and harnesses to leather goods. Hermès introduced jewellery to their collection in 1927 and in 1978 created its own watch division in Switzerland called the La Montre Hermès. The division focused on the international distribution of Hermès watches and was responsible for creating the now iconic Arceau watch collection.
Our vintage Hermès watch belongs to the Arceau collection launched in 1978. This model has a large round face and the characteristic sloping numbers on the dial, inspired by the elegance of the gallop.
