Wolfers Frères were the most prestigious jewellers of the Art Nouveau period which spanned either side of 1900. The family were hugely talented with Philippe Wolfers responsible for the Art Nouveau designs for which the company is best known. Around 1905 Philippe moved away from jewellery and his son Marcel (1886-1976) took on more responsibility at the firm. It was he who created many of the beautiful Art Deco designs such as these particular cufflinks. The company continued successfully during the mid-20th century until 1975 when they ceased trading.
